Our speaker on Monday night will be Eric Johnson.  Here is a short bio.

Eric Johnson will present a PowerPoint lecture entitled, Researching your War of 1812 ancestors on the Internet, at the meeting of the Tuscarawas County Genealogical Society on 1 April 2019 starting at 7 pm at the society’s library in Dennison, Ohio.

 

The lecture is a ‘how to’ on identifying and documenting ancestors who served during the War of 1812 by using the Internet. Johnson will focus on militia and U.S. Army ancestors, particularly Ohioans.

 

Eric’s parents were Norman and Mary Johnson of Uhrichsville. He is a graduated of Claymont High School and Kent State University. Married to Susan Weisenbach of Cleveland, the Johnson’s resides in Avon Lake, Ohio. They had a daughter, Sarah, who lives in Blacksburg, Virginia, with her husband.

 

He is a retired lieutenant colonel in the United States Air Force and is also a retired computer programmer.

 

Johnson is the Vice President of Development for the Ohio Genealogical Society (OGS). He serves as the registrar general for the General Society of the War of 1812, and as the registrar/genealogist for the Society of the War of 1812 in the State of Ohio. Johnson is also a member of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution, the Swedish Colonial Society and the Company of Military Historians.

 

He is a member of the OGS’s First Families of Ohio, Society of Civil War Families of Ohio, Settlers and Builders of Ohio, Century Families of Ohio, and Society of the Families of the Old Northwest Territory. He is also a life member of the Ross, Tuscarawas, Carroll and Harrison County Chapters of OGS. Besides doing family research, he enjoys researching American military history.

 

Johnson is a published author of thirteen books on military genealogy, twelve on the War of 1812 and one on the Civil War. He has a number of books which are in the process of being published. He has also self-published booklets relating to his family.

 

He has lectured throughout the state on military genealogy covering the War of 1812, Civil War and World War I. He will be presenting a lecture entitled, Researching War of 1812 Naval-Marine Ancestors, at the OGS Conference, 1-4 May 2019 in Mason, Ohio, and another lecture entitled, Researching ancestors in the Old Northwest Territory, 1788-1803, at the 2019 Midwestern Roots Conference, 19-20 July 2019, in Indianapolis, IN.
